The Asia Pacific AERONET Calibration and Training Center (APAC), in collaboration with NASA AERONET, is pleased to announce the AERONET Cimel Sunphotometer Training Course to be held on November 11, 2024, in Taipei, Taiwan. This training is part of the 2024 7-SEAS Workshop, scheduled from November 11-15, 2024, which will bring together experts and researchers to advance air quality monitoring and climate research. Please visit the 7-SEAS Workshop 2024 webpage for further information on the event.
About APAC: APAC is committed to enhancing the AERONET network through precise calibration services for Cimel Sunphotometers and specialized training programs, which aim to improve the technical skills and expertise in aerosol monitoring across the Asia-Pacific region. The center plays a crucial role in satellite data validation, while also fostering regional collaborations to address air quality challenges and climate change.
Training Course Details
The AERONET Cimel Sunphotometer Training Course is designed to provide in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge, equipping participants with the skills necessary to operate and maintain Cimel Sunphotometers for atmospheric aerosol monitoring. The training will cover the following key topics:
1. Theoretical Foundations: An introduction to AERONET and APAC, including the working principles of Cimel Sunphotometers and the science of aerosol optical depth (AOD).
2. Hands-On Instrument Training: Practical sessions on the installation, operation, and troubleshooting of the Cimel Sunphotometer, emphasizing best practices for handling and maintenance.
3. Data Download and Visualizations: Guidance on accessing, interpreting, and visualizing AERONET data, with a focus on key parameters such as AOD, Angstrom exponent, and inversion products.
4. Applications of AERONET Data: Utilizing AERONET data to support the validation of satellite-based remote sensing observations, enhancing the integration of ground-based and satellite measurements.
